The Sun Fall to the Dream in Their Final Game of the 2025 Season

Reliving the action from Wednesday night as the Sun and the Dream faced off for the final time.

The Connecticut Sun closed out their season with a spirited effort in front of a packed Mohegan Sun Arena. Despite the energy from Fan Appreciation Night, the game ended with the Dream on top, 88-72, on Wednesday evening. The loss put the Sun’s 2025 season record to 11-33.

Game Flow

The opening quarter set the tone for the night as the Dream came out flying shooting 64.7% from the field. Guard Rhyne Howard hit 2 3-pointers, totaling 8 points in the first. Atlanta ended the first quarter on a 10-0 run. This momentum continued as the Dream kept their foot on the gas, leading 51-28 at the half.

When second-half play started up, the Sun weren’t backing down, cutting the deficit down to single digits. Marina Mabrey got the crowd on their feet with a big 3-pointer that started to shift the momentum. There were also a few strong defensive stops and steals in the mix. However, the Dream kept pushing the pace and broke the game open again, ending a strong 17-5 run that the Sun once had.

Standout Players

Marina Mabrey led all scorers with 22 points on the night. Rookie forward Aneesah Morrow recorded another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

On the other side, the Atlanta Dream had five players totaling 10+ points on the night. Britney Griner was their leading scorer with 17 points.

Postgame Comments

Head coach Rachid Meziane, when asked about how the start of the game impacted the outcome, stated: “We didn’t give us an opportunity to win the game. Starting the game like that we know is against this kind of team, a great team, it’s hard to come back because you know they have good players and they know how to play together.”

When asked about knowing there wouldn’t be a playoff run this year and how to keep pushing through, Marina Mabrey expressed: “I think that we knew coming into this season this is going to be a rebuilding year. We don’t ever want to quit on anything because that’s not going to take you to the playoffs next year.”

Celebrating the Fans

The evening featured special giveaways, fan events, activities and a postgame autograph session with one player. Even with a loss, the fans showed up and showed out, making noise throughout the entire game and supporting the Sun.

Looking Ahead

With the season coming to a close, the Sun will look to work through their struggles and come back stronger next year. While the playoff picture was out of reach, the growth of the rookie players and their impact implies there is a lot to look forward to next time around.

The night may not have ended in a win, but it was a reminder that the Connecticut Sun fan community that fills Mohegan Sun Arena–especially on Fan Appreciation Night–was stronger than ever.
