There are many exciting games going on around women’s sports, but what should you watch this weekend?
Starting your weekend off strong with the start of the NWSL playoffs, the Orlando Pride vs. the Seattle Reign. They just played earlier this week on decision day, ending the game in a 1-1 tie. The Pride ended the regular season in 4th place (11-7-8), while the Reign ended theirs right beneath the Pride with a 10-9-7 record. Since the Pride ended the season in 4th, they will be hosting the quarterfinal at home at the Inter & Co Stadium right in Orlando. The game will be available to watch on Amazon Prime Video at 8 p.m. ET.
Also on Friday, Boston University plays at home vs. Dartmouth for the NCAA Women’s Basketball season. The Terriers are looking to bounce back after a tough opener loss. Dartmouth’s last game was on March 8 with a 74-40 defeat vs. Harvard. This game is happening at 6 p.m. ET.
The field hockey ends in the American East Championship final. New Hampshire, with an 11-6 record, will play against Vermont, with an 11-7 record. They’ll face off on Friday. Time still TBD.
On Saturday, Nov. 8, we have a very early game showing in the U.S. with the London derby at 7 a.m. on ESPN. Chelsea leads the WSL with 19 points, and Arsenal is in 5th with 14 points. Lauren James and Catarina Macario are missing from Chelsea Women due to injury. James is recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the Euros, while Macario has inflammation around her Achilles tendon. Meanwhile, Naomi Girma, who was out with a calf injury, is available again for selection. Arsenal’s women’s squad is currently missing Leah Williamson, Manuela Zinsberger and Lotte Wubben-Moy due to injuries or illness. Williamson and Zinsberger have significant knee injuries, while Wubben-Moy withdrew from international duty due to illness. Several other players are also sidelined with smaller knocks and illnesses, or are being rested. Also, on Saturday in the NWSL, Racing Louisville plays at Audi Field against the Washington Spirit for a quarterfinal playoff game. This marks the second time the Washington Spirit are in 2nd place hosting a quarterfinal and possibly a semifinal. This game will be shown on CBS at 12 p.m. ET.
The Women’s Hockey Rivalry series will continue on Saturday. Team USA will be playing Team Canada at 6 p.m. ET in Buffalo, available to watch on the NHL Network.
On Sunday, Nov. 9, we have an NWSL playoff doubleheader: Gotham FC plays at #1 Kansas City Current at 12:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Both teams are missing their star strikers, Temwa Chawinga for the Current and Esther Gonzalez for Gotham. Chawinga just came off to win the Golden Boot race with 15 goals, and Gonzalez came in second with 13 goals. The other game also being played on ABC is the San Diego Wave vs. the Portland Thorns at Providence Park at 3 p.m. ET. The Thorns are missing 10 players, while the Wave is missing only four.
Another major game on Sunday will be UConn women’s basketball vs. Florida State at 4:30 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1. It’ll be the second day of the women’s college basketball season.
