Connecticut Prospect Sadie Zion Eyes WPBL Draft

The Northeast first baseman looks to start her professional baseball career.

Growing up in Carmel, New York, Sadie Zion always had a love for baseball – a sport less available for girls and women at a high competitive level. At about age 7, Sadie Zion played baseball for a travel team. At Carmel High School, Zion played on the boys’ baseball team as a freshman and sophomore. She eventually switched to the softball team in her junior year.

Her path reflects both talent and determination: balancing competing in boys’ baseball, transitioning to high school softball and continuing to play baseball outside of school on a travel team.

Based on her recruiting profile, Zion states, “I like to be challenged and put in the work to succeed.” Facing challenges does not cause any fear in Sadie.

Sadie Zion’s primary position is first base, with the addition of outfield. She throws and bats left-handed. At the national level, Zion has made the roster for the USA Baseball Women’s National Open in 2022. Currently, the first baseman is listed as a top prospect by the upcoming Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL) at just 19 years old!

The prospect has great glove work and awareness at first base. In the outfield, Zion moves quickly, preventing extra base hits from turning into runs. Scouts may describe the baseball player as fundamentally sound with smooth hands and a quiet confidence.

Zion’s trajectory points toward opportunity and areas of promise. According to her recruitment profile, she aims to play college softball at the highest level possible. Given her background in baseball and softball, Sadie may have the option to be recruited in either or both sports. Being listed as one of the top WPBL prospects means Zion may earn her spot on a team in the upcoming league.

Sadie Zion is a player to look out for, since she is part of the growing wave of women’s baseball. Her story adds to the narrative of women breaking through barriers by participating in traditionally male-dominated sports. Zion’s dual experience in baseball and softball gives her a broad skillset and athletic maturity.

All in all, Sadie Zion is a promising young athlete whose profile combines versatility, determination and a non-traditional path through baseball and softball. With national-team experience and club baseball roots, she’s definitely one to keep an eye on. With the draft incoming, we will soon find out which team the first baseman may be selected to.
