The Sun lost 83-82 to the Portland Fire.
May 19, 2026 – Moda Center, Portland, OR
The Connecticut Sun started the game off strong, but ultimately couldn’t stop the Portland Fire, falling 83-82 on Monday night.
Bridget Carleton and Sarah Ashlee Barker led the way for the Portland Fire, recording 18 points each. Despite not having Carla Leite due to a right ankle injury, this Fire side stayed strong.
The Connecticut Sun had a seven-point lead in the third quarter, but it quickly fell. Despite balanced performances from the team, the Sun fell under pressure. Aneesah Morrow recorded her fourth straight double-double. Brittney Griner put up 16 points, along with five rebounds and four assists in her return from injury. Aaliyah Edwards and Hailey Van Lith recorded 12 points each. Lastly, Saniya Rivers had a balanced effort of nine points, three rebounds, six assists and four steals.
This Sun team has struggled, getting blown out in two games. The other three games have been much closer. For a team that had a lot of promise coming into this season, things have not been going great so far.
There are many adjustments that need to be made. Firstly, Connecticut needs to look to hold teams to less points. The defense has been struggling and not in sync. The offense has been fairly steady with many players contributing, but even that has not been enough. In Monday night’s game, the Sun shot 50.8% from the floor, which topped the 45.2% shooting from the Fire. The team came up just short.
Connecticut falls to 0-5 on the season. The Sun remain on the road, taking on the Seattle Storm on Wednesday night.
