Washington closes strong in the fourth quarter as Connecticut drops its third meeting of the season with the Mystics.
The Connecticut Sun battled throughout the night but could not overcome a late Washington surge, falling 88-81 to the Washington Mystics on Wednesday evening at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Connecticut kept pace with the Mystics for much of the game, using balanced scoring and strong defensive stretches to stay within striking distance. The Sun entered the fourth quarter with a chance to secure their first victory over Washington this season, but the Mystics responded with timely baskets and key defensive stops down the stretch.
Washington capitalized on second-chance opportunities and converted crucial free throws in the closing minutes to seal the seven-point victory. Despite several runs by the Sun, the Mystics consistently answered and maintained control late.
Connecticut received contributions from multiple players and showed flashes of progress on both ends of the floor, but Washington’s execution in the final minutes proved to be the difference. The loss drops the Sun to 0-3 against the Mystics this season.
The Sun will look to regroup as they continue their homestand, while Washington heads into its next matchup with momentum after securing another win in the season series.
