Athlete of the Week: Kennedy Burke

Read about the Sun’s shining player, Kennedy Burke!

In the Sun’s most recent win against the Minnesota Lynx, Burke’s three-pointer was detrimental to the Connecticut win with only 44 seconds left on the clock. Kennedy Burke truly deserves this spotlight for not only the July 6 game but also her performance throughout the season.

So far, Burke has secured an average of 8.6 points per game, totaling up to 171 points. She has played in every game this season, racking up 480 minutes on the court. Out of 20 games, Kennedy Burke has only played in one game where she did not secure a point for the team. This type of skill and grit is something special!

Throughout her basketball career, Kennedy Burke has made her mark. Burke became UCLA’s fourth player in women’s basketball history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 100 blocks. In 2019, Burke was the 22nd draft pick for the Dallas Wings. A few years later, she won the Ligue Féminine de Basketball (LFB) Most Valuable Player award for both 2023 and 2024. And with the New York Liberty in 2024, Burke became a WNBA Champion!

The Connecticut Sun are lucky to have this shining talent as a part of their team, and we are excited to see what she does next!
