Get to know Brown University’s All-American Midfield Leader and U.S. National Team Standout.
Lucy Adams established herself as one of the finest field hockey players in Brown University history while emerging as one of the top midfielders in NCAA Division I. Hailing from Andover, Massachusetts, Adams combined exceptional vision, technical skill and relentless work ethic to become the centerpiece of Brown’s resurgence and a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team.
From the moment she stepped on campus in 2022, Adams made an immediate impact. As a freshman, she started all 17 games and finished second on the team with 15 points, recording five goals and five assists. Her outstanding debut earned her First Team All-Ivy League and NFHCA First Team All-Northeast Region honors, signaling the arrival of one of the Ivy League’s brightest young stars.
Despite an injury-shortened sophomore season in 2023, Adams remained one of Brown’s top performers, appearing in 10 games while earning Second Team All-Ivy League and Second Team All-Northeast Region recognition. She quickly bounced back in 2024, starting every game and leading the Bears with 11 assists, while adding four goals and 19 points. Her play earned NFHCA Second Team All-American, First Team All-Ivy League, First Team All-Northeast Region, and Ivy League All-Tournament Team honors. She also helped guide Brown to the Ivy League Tournament while establishing herself as one of the nation’s premier playmakers.
Adams saved her best season for last. During her senior campaign in 2025, she once again recorded 11 assists, tying the fourth-highest single-season total in Brown history, while earning NFHCA First Team All-American recognition. She became the first two-time All-American in Brown field hockey history and only the second First Team All-American the program has ever produced. She also collected First Team All-Ivy League honors for the third time, became the first Bear to earn All-Northeast Region recognition in all four seasons, and was selected to the prestigious NFHCA Senior Team.
By the end of her collegiate career, Adams ranked third in Brown history with 27 career assists and was tied for 11th all-time with 55 career points. She became just the fourth player in program history to earn All-Ivy honors four times and helped lead the Bears to consecutive Ivy League Tournament appearances, something the program had not consistently achieved in decades. She was also named Brown’s Most Valuable Player twice during her career, further highlighting her leadership and impact.
What separates Adams from many elite midfielders is her complete game. While her offensive production stands out, her greatest strength is her ability to dictate the tempo of a match. She excels at transitioning the ball from defense to attack, creating scoring opportunities through precise passing and controlling possession under pressure. Her high field hockey IQ, defensive positioning and unselfish style make her the type of player who elevates everyone around her rather than relying solely on statistics.
Her success has extended beyond the collegiate level. Adams represented the United States at the junior international level before earning a place on the U.S. Women’s National Team. She won gold at the 2023 Junior Pan American Championship and the 2026 Three Nations Tournament, along with silver medals at the Pan American Cup and 2024 Junior Pan American Championship, and a bronze medal at the 2026 FIH Hockey Nations Cup. Those accomplishments cement her status as one of the top American midfielders of her generation.
Through her remarkable consistency, elite vision and ability to perform on the biggest stages, Lucy Adams leaves Brown as one of the most decorated players in program history and one of New England’s greatest collegiate field hockey players.
