From the only girl on the team to a director with the Orlando Magic!
The Boys and Girls Club of Central New Hampshire gave Becky Bonner her big break. She won her first trophy in second grade basketball in her hometown of Concord, New Hampshire and from there on out her future was bright.
As she got older, her skills developed, earning her a scholarship to play at Stanford University in 2000. Then, she completed college at Boston University from 2003 to 2005. During her collegiate career in basketball, she was also studying Communications with a focus on Public Relations. Post graduation, Becky Bonner played for the Swedish women’s professional basketball team for a season. But her career as a player is only the beginning of her time in the world of basketball.
Becky Bonner became part of the University of Maryland’s and Louisville University’s basketball operations. As one of the directors, Bonner could help the teams and programs run smoothly while also using her knowledge of the game to benefit the schools. In 2011, Bonner began her time with the Basketball Operations International department for the NBA League Office. A few years later, she assisted with the men’s national team in the FIBA World Cup.
After six years with the office, Bonner was selected and brought into the position of Director of Player Development and Quality Control for the Orlando Magic. Being a woman in such a field is empowering and inspiring altogether. It is not every day that director positions are earned by females in the realm of athletics, nevermind the professional level, but Becky Bonner is proof that it is possible!
