PREVIEW: Boston Legacy Look to Build on Winning Momentum Against San Diego Wave

Boston looks to extend its winning momentum on the road as San Diego aims to complete the season sweep.

The Boston Legacy are heading west this weekend to face the San Diego Wave on Sunday, Oct. 25, at Snapdragon Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET as Boston looks to carry its recent success into a challenging road matchup.

Boston enters Sunday’s contest following a 2-1 victory over Racing Louisville on Oct. 16. Amanda Gutierres opened the scoring in the ninth minute before Deja Davis headed home the winner in the 51st minute, helping the Legacy secure their second consecutive win. Gutierres’ goal was her 10th of the season, tying her for the team lead in scoring.

The Legacy will look to carry that attacking momentum into Sunday’s matchup against a San Diego side that has won four consecutive games. The Wave most recently defeated the North Carolina Courage 2-1 on Oct. 17, with goals from Melanie Barcenas and Trinity Byars. The victory also secured San Diego a home quarterfinal in the 2026 NWSL playoffs.

Sunday’s game will mark the second meeting between the two clubs this season. San Diego claimed a 1-0 victory at Gillette Stadium on April 3, with Ludmila scoring the decisive goal in the 63rd minute. The Wave will look to complete the season sweep, while Boston will aim to even the series with a road victory.

One player to watch for San Diego is Barcenas, who has scored seven goals this season. The 18-year-old has set a new NWSL single-season record for goals by a teenager, making her an important attacking threat for the Wave.

For Boston, Gutierres will be one to watch after finding the net in the team’s most recent win. Her scoring form could be key as the Legacy look to break through against a San Diego team that has found success in recent weeks.

With both teams coming off victories, Sunday’s matchup presents an opportunity for Boston to continue building momentum while San Diego looks to protect its home field ahead of the postseason.

The Boston Legacy face the San Diego Wave at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, Oct. 25. The match will be broadcast on Roku.
