Boston Chosen as One of Four Cities in the Women’s Pro Baseball League

Who would have thought a movie would come back to life? A League of Their Own is becoming reality once again, right in New England!

Boston has been chosen to be a part of the Women’s Professional Baseball League (WPBL) inaugural season. This is a huge step forward in the world of women’s sports, since the last professional baseball league ended in 1954. The first female coach of an MLB team, Justine Siegal, co-founded this professional league, and the cities of Boston, San Francisco, New York City and Los Angeles are the first to join. With 15 players per team, the season will run a four-team circuit with hope for more in the future.

Some of the players on the upcoming draft include Mo’ne Davis, a former Little League Star, Japanese pitcher Ayami Sato and USA’s Kelsie Whitmore. A total of 100 women advanced from tryouts to the league’s draft.

Boston, as well as the other cities, were chosen specifically due to the prevalent fanbases of major professional sports here. There is extreme support for the athletic world and it brings tons of encouragement for female athletes. Additionally, Boston has a long history in terms of baseball. This creates a strong base for growing a new team and new league.

Women’s professional leagues are coming in strong and powerful! There is so much more to come, and we will be right there covering every step of the way!
