It’s that time of year, one of the biggest events in college hockey! Let’s take a look at what’s ahead for the four teams competing in the 2026 Women’s Beanpot.
Today is the day! The 2026 Women’s Beanpot Semifinals are here, and the four biggest hockey schools in Boston will be competing to see who will champion Boston and win the title. Boston College, Boston University, Harvard and Northeastern are gearing up to take the ice in some of the hottest rivalries in college hockey.
In 2025, Northeastern won the Beanpot Championship title for the third-straight year in a row. It was also their 20th title win ever. That 2025 final game was the most attended women’s hockey game in New England history, with attendance coming in at 13,279 fans. This was the second year that the final game took place in TD Garden, and the attendance surely solidified the venue for years to come, proving that women’s hockey isn’t going anywhere.
Let’s take a look at some statistics and history between the four teams facing off in this exciting tournament.
This year marks the 47th Women’s Beanpot. Northeastern leads the way with 20 titles, followed by Harvard with 15, Boston College with eight and Boston University with only two. So why don’t those numbers add up to 46 if this is the 47th competition? Brown University actually competed in the competition and won in 1993, but dropped out after this win due to finances.
Northeastern has won four of the last five Beanpot titles, winning the 3rd-place game in 2022 when Harvard took home the championship title. They have the highest percentage of wins against Boston University, winning 20 out of 29 total games. Northeastern has the lowest percentage of wins against Boston College, winning 16 out of 28 games.
Harvard won one title in the last five, and in the other four games, they came in dead last. From 1999 to 2005, Harvard had a winning stretch, winning six titles in a row. Many of those games were high scoring, which showed the insane dominance they had during that time period. Harvard has the highest percentage of wins against Boston University, winning 19 out of 26 total games. Harvard has the lowest percentage of wins against Northeastern, winning 14 out of 35 games.
Boston College has eight total titles in the history of the Women’s Beanpot, their most recent being in 2018. In the last five years, BC has won three 3rd-place games and been the runner-up twice. BC won back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007. They have the highest percentage of wins against Boston University, winning 20 out of 30 games. BC has the lowest percentage of wins against Harvard, winning 12 out of 31 games.
Finally, we have Boston University, which has only won two titles in 45 years of participation. Not 46, because they were replaced by Brown in the singular year they played. BU’s only titles came in 1981 and 2019, placing 38 years between each title. They have only appeared in the final nine times, and have nine third-place wins. BU technically has the highest percentage of wins against Boston College, but it is hard to see. They have eight wins out of 22 games. Their lowest percentage of wins is against Northeastern, with five wins in 24 games. This makes Boston University the biggest underdog of all four teams.
In the Hockey East standings for the regular season, Northeastern is currently 1st, Boston College is 4th and Boston University is 6th. Harvard is in a different conference, the ECAC, and is 8th in that conference.
The semifinal today will take place at Walter Arena, where Boston University women’s hockey calls home. Harvard will face off against Boston College at 4:30 p.m., and Northeastern will face Boston University at 7:30 p.m. The 3rd-place game and the final will take place on Jan. 20 at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. at TD Garden. The 2026 Women’s Beanpot can be streamed on NESN and ESPN+.
