The wing/guard broke five records in front of a sold-out crowd Friday night in Philly.
On Friday, Jan. 30, the Unrivaled Women’s Basketball League traveled to Philadelphia for its first-ever tour stop. Philadelphia is getting a WNBA team in 2030. This Unrivaled event tested the waters for what’s to come.
In a double-header event at Xfinity Mobile Arena, the Breeze and the Phantom tipped off first. Kelsey Plum hit the game-winner for the Phantom, giving them a 71-68 victory over the Breeze.
During the night’s second game, the Owls’ Marina Mabrey was shooting lights out. In the first quarter, Mabrey tallied 27 points and seven 3-pointers, three of which were all made within the last minute of the quarter. The crowd was electric with everyone on their feet. With 27 points in a quarter, as well as seven 3-pointers, Unrivaled records were broken.
By halftime, the guard was up to 30 points. In the third quarter, the heat check was real as Mabrey made three more 3-pointers, leading to a total of 10 on the night, another record. Additionally, the Connecticut Sun star hit the game winner, ending with 47 points on the night, a new Unrivaled best. The fifth record broken was 18 made field goals in the game. The final score was Owls 85, Rose 75.
Marina Mabrey is known for her clutch performances, but this performance was one for the record books.
