RECAP: Boston Banshees vs. Denver Onyx

The Boston Banshees faced a tough loss against the Denver Onyx.

The Boston Banshees fell to the Denver Onyx tonight at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium. It was a neck-and-neck battle in the beginning, but things would take a turn for the home team.

The starting lineup was as follows:

The match started at a fast pace, with the Onyx crossing for a try less than five minutes into the game, while both teams traded penalties early. Boston responded quickly when Jenny Kronish broke through for a try and added the conversion around the ninth minute to settle the Banshees into the contest. For much of the opening half, Boston controlled possession and field position, eventually taking the lead after a strong finish from Caitlin Weigel.

Denver answered late in the half after earning a scrum near the try line, powering over to even the score before adding another try to move ahead. The Banshees struggled to regain possession as the Onyx forwards repeatedly bulldozed through contact and controlled the tempo. By halftime, Denver had built a 19-14 advantage over Boston.

The second half quickly turned even more into Denver’s favor. Play went back and forth early, and the Onyx received a yellow card, but Boston was unable to capitalize. Instead, Denver continued to dominate physically, with Saher Hamdan adding another Onyx try to extend the lead. Injuries briefly slowed the momentum as players from both sides went down during the half, but the Onyx never lost control of the match.

In the end, Boston would get one more try and conversion, but Denver would keep pushing, having the final score be Banshees 19, Onyx 52.

The Banshees next matchup is May 30 at 6 p.m. EST against Twin City at TCO Stadium in Egan, Michigan.
