Connecticut battles through growing pains, tough competition and a season filled with transition.
The Connecticut Sun battled the Golden State Valkyries in a physical matchup but came up short after a strong second-half push from Golden State. Connecticut stayed competitive through much of the game, showing energy on the defensive end and moments of offensive rhythm, but the Valkyries capitalized on key runs late to secure the win.
The Sun opened the game with strong ball movement and aggressive defense, forcing difficult shots and creating transition opportunities early. Connecticut found success attacking the paint and controlling the pace during stretches of the first half, keeping the game within reach heading into the break.
Golden State responded in the second half with improved shooting and defensive pressure, turning turnovers into points and building momentum midway through the third quarter. The Valkyries’ ability to stretch the floor and knock down perimeter shots created separation as Connecticut struggled to regain offensive consistency late in the game.
Despite the loss, the Sun showed flashes of growth and resilience against one of the league’s newest teams. Connecticut continued to compete through all four quarters, with younger players stepping into bigger roles and veterans providing leadership throughout the night.
The Sun will look to regroup and carry the positives from the performance into their next matchup as they continue building chemistry early in the season.
