The Sun lost 71-61 to the Portland Fire.
May 27, 2026 – Moda Center, Portland, OR
The Connecticut Sun lacked an offensive balance from their team, being held to just 61 points. The Sun couldn’t stop the Fire led by Carla Leite’s 20 point-performance, falling 71-61 on Wednesday night.
Carla Leite (20 points) and Bridget Carleton (13 points) led the way for the Portland Fire. The Fire have been playing better with Leite back in the lineup.
The Connecticut Sun went on a 19-6 run in the third quarter. Going into the fourth quarter, the game was tied at 50 a piece. The biggest difference in this game was the Sun’s lack of three-point shooting. The team only made one three-pointer on 21 attempts. As a team, the Fire went 7-for-22 from three. Despite another double-double from Aneesah Morrow, the Sun fell under pressure. The only other Sun player in double figures scoring was Charlisse Leger-Walker with 10 points. Brittney Griner was out due to a rib injury. Not having Griner was a big loss due to her paint presence and efficient shooting.
This Sun team has struggled, losing their third game in a row. This game was the closest deficit they have had in a few games, losing by just 10 points.
The Sun are struggling to generate consistent offense each night. As a team, Connecticut shot 38.7% from the floor. The team needs a player to step up and be that star scorer for them that they are missing due to Marina Mabrey’s exit. Additionally, the Sun’s defense is allowing teams to score wherever they want on the court and at a high level. There needs to be multiple defenders to help step up. If these adjustments can be made, the Sun may be able to get back in the win column.
Connecticut falls to 1-8 on the season. The Sun will travel back home, taking on the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday night.
